Business Tax Returns
Which business return you file depends on your entity and its elections: Form 1065 for partnerships and multi-member LLCs, 1120-S for S-corporations, 1120 for C-corporations, and Schedule C on your personal return for a single-member LLC or sole proprietorship. Blue Sage prepares all of them, plus the state returns that follow.
What's included
- Form 1065, 1120-S, 1120, or Schedule C, as your structure requires
- Schedule K-1 for every partner or shareholder
- State and New York City business returns
- Depreciation schedules and fixed asset tracking
- Owner compensation and distribution review
- Partner and shareholder basis tracking
- Coordination with the owners' personal returns
- Extension filing where more time is genuinely needed
Who this is for
Partnerships, multi-member LLCs, S-corporations, C-corporations, and single-member LLCs. Also businesses in their first year that are not yet certain which return they are supposed to file, or whether an election was made on their behalf when the entity was formed.
If you are unsure what your entity actually is for tax purposes, bring the formation documents and last year's return. That question is answerable in one call and is worth answering before a deadline arrives.
Deadlines and rules worth knowing
| Item | What applies |
|---|---|
| Partnership / multi-member LLC | Form 1065, due the 15th day of the 3rd month after year end — March 15 for calendar-year filers |
| S-corporation | Form 1120-S, same March 15 deadline for calendar-year filers |
| C-corporation | Form 1120, due the 15th day of the 4th month after year end — April 15 for calendar-year filers |
| Single-member LLC | Schedule C filed with the owner's personal return, on the personal deadline |
| Extensions | Form 7004 for entity returns, generally six months |
| K-1 timing | Partners and shareholders cannot finish their personal returns until the entity return is done. Filing the entity late delays everyone. |
| Late filing | Partnership and S-corporation penalties are charged per partner or shareholder, per month |

Questions
How much does a business tax return cost?
Business returns start at $1,199 for a partnership, S-corp, or C-corp return. The final quote depends on the number of owners, the number of states, and whether the books need work before the return can be prepared. Monthly plans that include the business return start at $499 a month.
What is the deadline for a partnership or S-corporation return?
Both are due on the 15th day of the third month after the end of the tax year, which is March 15 for calendar-year filers. C-corporations get an extra month, to April 15. Form 7004 extends entity returns by six months, but it does not extend the owners' personal payment deadlines.
Do I file a business return for a single-member LLC?
Usually not a separate one. A single-member LLC with no elections is disregarded for federal tax purposes and reports on Schedule C of the owner's personal return. That changes if the LLC has elected to be taxed as an S-corporation or C-corporation, in which case the entity files its own return.
